The majority of MMR's projects will require general practice primary health care providers. Almost every team will need at least one MD or DO under who the rest of the team will work. Your role is vital in order to see that field strategies are carried out. We also use PAs and Nurse Practitioners quite frequently.
As a primary health professional on an MMR team, we are expecting you to anchor the team in ways of professional competency. With that in mind, medicine is usually very basic in the areas we work. There will more than likely be no lab facilities. Please be willing to work within the situation. More than a few physicians have been frustrated with their ability to address more complex issues. For more complex issues, we will refer the patient to closest location able to assist them. Most of the work that you will do, especially with medically challenging issues, will provide the field personnel with the opportunity to do follow up with the patient and his/her family.
We realize that participating on an MMR project is an act of service for you in many ways. Not only are you asked to pay your own way to help, for those who are in practice, you are sacrificing important time. For that, we can't thank you enough for being willing to assist. Know this, your time spent on the field WILL help field personnel take steps closer to their goals of seeing disciples made and churches planted.
If you are interested in participating on a medical project with MMR, please use the "
Sign Up!" form to let us know about you. We will ask you to fill out an MMR application. Part of that application will be the necessity to get other documents from you. We will need a scanned copy of these items:
- First two pages of your passport
- A copy of your current CV
- Copies of your diplomas
- Copies of your medical license
Your application will not be considered complete until those items are in hand. We will need those items in order to secure permissions for you to work in the host country.
MMR will seek to purchase medicines locally. Due to growing customs issues and attention factors, we buy locally to simplify many aspects of travel. We have a fairly standard formulary from which we secure medications. Upon request, we will do our best to give physicians and pharmacists some say over the formulary that will be purchased. Some items may be locally unavailable. When that happens, we will work to get the closest equivalent. Buying locally also does several things for the local people. They will recognize local medicines, take them better, and it supports the local economy.
