Opportunities to Serve

South Asia, Location 1 – September

A new region of work for MMR, there are exciting openings here. One people group identified is a very closed community; little is known about this tribe and their needs. Workers have been trying for a long time to reach out, but can’t make inroads. Believers in a “cousin tribe” want to reach this tribe and think that a health strategy would be accepted by the people. We need doctors, nurses, other healthcare-related professionals, and non-medical support, willing to volunteer two weeks of their time in September 2010. Volunteers may conduct community health fairs and general clinics, and/or other healthcare activities at the discretion of the host missionaries. Exact location, timing, and other details are available upon application to the MMR website.

South Asia, Location 2 – November

Among this mostly Hindu and Muslim population, there is some Christian influence. The field personnel hosted an MMR team last year and report that the follow-up in the past year has been successful. Another team is needed this fall to build on this fledging work.

Middle East – August

Workers are needed in a large urban area, where there is an established Christian church. Local believers want to reach their Muslim neighbors, but that’s challenging in a nation where religious freedom doesn’t exist, and conversion is illegal. Muslims won’t darken the doorstep of the

Christian church, so a western healthcare team will provide a general clinic, to make contact with the community. After the MMR team leaves, local Christians will begin a follow-up program with the intention of getting behind closed doors - into their neighbors’ homes to meet legitimate health needs while also sharing spiritual Hope.

East Asia – October

Exact locations are contingent upon government permissions, which are usually obtained directly before travel dates. This Asian country experiences tremendous religious persecution but also has a thriving Christian community that needs the constant support of fellow believers, the credibility of western healthcare workers, and the community health initiatives that improve well- being of vulnerable populations.

North Africa – Open Dates

Two North African countries have good facilities available for ophthalmology work and cataract surgery. Opportunities exist for qualified volunteers to perform surgeries, and the field team will provide long-term follow-up.
