Dr. Charles Fielding began overseas missions work in South Asia in 1995 as a church planter among a large unreached Muslim population. After a few years he became the Strategy Coordinator over that group. A Strategy Coordinator seeks to understand and overcome the barriers that have prevented their target group from access to the gospel. Dr. Fielding’s team found that, although the Jesus film and gospel recordings were available in the language of that people, and missionaries had even worked there extensively in the past, the primary problem was that the gospel was not being presented in an environment where seekers could truly listen and respond. His team also found that, as health issues were of primary importance to all of the communities of the area, health and medical strategies did provide access into any village and into homes where communication of the gospel could take place.
In 2000, Dr. Fielding co-founded Medical Missions Response (www.mmronline.org), an independent missions organization that mobilizes medical and dental teams to work alongside missionaries among the least accessed people groups. All MMR teams are a response to a specific request from a missionary and are a component in his or her church planting strategy. Since 2000, missionaries supported by MMR teams have seen churches established in some of the most restricted places on earth.
Since 2001 Dr. Fielding has served as a health strategy consultant, helping missionaries engage the least reached people groups with the gospel. His wife, “M” is a home school teacher to their two children. She also leads the church to pray for unreached Muslim peoples through Ladies Prayer Teas, Prayer for the Nation events, and Prayer Bracelets (www.prayer4nations.org).
